NEW BRUNSWICK COMMON FRONT FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE

aims to build a world based on solidarity and without poverty

The Common Front for Social Justice is fighting to build a world where New Brunswickers live in solidarity, united by a vision of common good based on respect and dignity for all.

We want a society which gives each and every person a decent living, in particular by having a minimum wage and social income that rise well above poverty lines. We want a New Brunswick without poverty.

Every person can develop their full potential and become fully engaged in the social, economic and cultural development of New Brunswick. We want to help New Brunswickers embrace this fact.

Land Acknowledgement

We must recognize these unceded Indigenous territories of the Mi'kmaq (Meeg-em-ach), Wolastoqiyik (Wool-las-two-wi-ig) and Peskotomuhkati (Pa-suh-maa-kwuh-dee) nations. On this territory, we are partners in a treaty called the Peace and Friendship Treaty.

This treaty guaranteed equal sharing of the lands for the descendants of Indigenous signatories and are still in effect today. This is a contract that settlers in so-called New Brunswick have not respected in centuries. Settlers have been poor stewards of the land and have disrespected and harmed the original inhabitants of this territory. Settlers actively occupy and benefit from stolen land. It’s important to acknowledge this history, to learn from it, and ensure Indigenous communities are supported as they reclaim their cultures, languages and lands.

A good way to do this is amplify the voices of Indigenous activists and communities. Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik leadership frequently publish press releases on social media - getting familiar with their advocacy and sharing those in your networks can be a first step in truth and reconciliation. For more information, we encourage you to read: Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to action. We should give the land back.
